calculating weight for an airplane flight? i recently went on a sightseeing flight. the airplane was a piper warrior, i think. in the airplane, there are 3 passengers. the pilot asked us how much we weighted. he did some calculations, he said it’s done on every flight. how is he calculating how much weight the airplane can take so it can take off? i’m really curious. is it possible that the passengers can be too heavy and the piper warrior wouldn’t be able to take off?
The other, usually more important thing he is calculating is the ‘center of gravity’ of the airplane. If the weight distribution is too far to the rear, the airplane is unstable and uncontrollable in flight even if it is under the maximum weight limit. If the weight distribution is too far forward, again the airplane may be uncontrollable. All airplanes are certified to fly with the center of gravity between specified limits.
Yes, it could be easily overweight and it happens all the time with fatal results. The aircraft has a maximum certified gross weight. Although it could fly above this weight the airframe is not stressed for it and there is not enough installed power to get the right performance out of the plane.
He is calculating the speed needed to get off the ground.
How can I rent out my airplane without going broke on insurance premiums? I have a 1957 Piper PA-22-160 that I would like to rent out to offset some of the maintenance/hanger/operating costs. The problem is that if I rent it for training (which is most probably the only renters that’ll be interested), I get into a commercial insurance arrangement, which is very expensive. Does anyone know of a way around this?
There is no legal way around the problem as the premium is based on the exposure. Don’t try to take any short cuts or it could cost you a lot more than a 1957 Piper.
What do you think of this particular plane? It is a Piper Cherokee Six PA32-260 “THE FAMILY AIRPLANE”. How long will it last? How much will total average cost come to including maintenance (Not including hangar fee). If it possible, give me a average annual fee of all inspections, insurance, etc. Thanks for the help!
How about “Glory days”

Paint for an airplane? I have a Piper Cherokee 140. Where can I find paint schemes and what kind of paint can I use on it. Any help would be appreciated. I am looking for a special paint that you can use on airplanes. Thanks guys…
You should contact an aircraft paint shop. They will have all sorts of paint schemes and the proper facilities, paints, and personnel to properly repaint your plane. There is a significant amount of weight in the paint, so a new weight and balance will have to be performed when you repaint, not to mention all the EPA requirements about stripping and painting. And what if you find corrosion that requires repair? In any event, there are control surfaces and such that must be removed for painting, and only a repair station or licensed mechanic can repair any corrosion or remove and replace the parts. Repainting an airplane is not something you can do yourself. Definately contact a professional. Here are some links.

Big Brother and the Holding Company With the studio debut of Janis Joplin. The album was originally released in the summer of 1967, following the band’s major success at the Monterey Pop Festival. A year after its initial release, Big Brother would release their sophomore effort Cheap Thrills which went on to become a massive hit.
